Projects by Budget

Approximately 44% of the projects that received a pledge of TIF assistance in the City of Chicago between 2000 and 2008 had total project budgets of less than $20 Million. On average, the City pledged TIF funds in the average amount of 28% of the total project budget for those projects. Approximately 24% of the TIF projects had total project budgets between $20 Million and $40 Million, the next largest category. The average City pledge of TIF assistance was equal to approximately 23% of the total project budget for those projects.

Projects with budgets between $40 Million and $60 Million received an average of approximately 33% of their project budgets in the form of TIF assistance, the highest average assistance percentage for all project budget categories.4 Projects with budgets over $100 Million received an average of approximately 16% of their project budgets in the form of TIF assistance, the lowest for all project budget categories.
